How we do it... In all of our time skiing on a mono-ski, we hope to share our extensive knowledge of the sport to you. Hmm..... Unfortunately, that is just about the extent of our knowledge. What we can tell you how it looks and feel when skiing on a mono-ski for the first time. It is incredible!! From the get go, keeping in mind that mono-skiing is a very challenging sport, it's a blast. You get to go faster than you have been able to go since you plopped yourself on your wheelchair for the first time (even if you went straight down the hill). You use mini skis attached to poles that are called riggers that help you steer yourself down the hill. It takes small movements to make a small or even big turn. Even a nod of your head can get you where you need to go. There are also different types of skis that you can try out for different levels of skiing and levels of injury. Try them out until you find one that best fits you . If you don't feel like beating yourself silly, we recommend trying to find a resort that has an adaptive skiing school that will help you learn all of the skills you will need to negotiate even the most challenging terrain. Shown below are some of the resorts that we recommend from experience and also that offer adaptive ski schools.
